How Would You Get Rid of an RV Squatter in Front of Your House?
One Oregon man went to great lengths to try and get rid of an RV squatter living close to his home.
Oregon Man Declares War on RV Squatters in Neighborhood
An Oregon man posted about his fight in his own neighborhood with squatters living in a broken-down RV near his house in Portland. The man decided to go outside the law and use gorilla warfare tactics to try and get them to leave on his own. The first tactic he used was to put a large sign in front of the RV that says “We sell Meth”. Portland has a large problem with Meth and the man obviously thought the sign would make an impact. However, the RV stayed and the man had to go to deeper lengths to try and get them to move.
Paint, Kitty Litter, and Compost Were His Weapons of Choice
After the “We sell meth” sign refused to work, the Oregon man decided to step it up a notch. The first thing he did was splatter a gallon of paint onto their windshield, but that didn’t work either. Then the man dumped cubic feet of compost and cat litter on the hood of the RV into the engine compartment. The hood was missing along with most of the engine parts, so he filled the space with sticky compost. That last step did the trick and shortly after someone came and towed it away.
“This guy took some more “encouragement”. After having a gallon of paint thrown on their windshield, and a few cubic feet of compost and spent cat litter dumped into their hood (which was left open and half the parts were missing from the engine), an old Blazer showed up with a tow strap and towed it away.”
Internet is Divided on the Actions of Oregon Man
The comments from the story show thoughts about the actions are divided. Some praised the man while others warned it could spark hostility and violence against RV dwellers in neighborhoods. One user said “I agree that RV and urban camping is way out of control and something has to be done about it, but going out there and doing the same things you’re complaining they are doing just makes you a hypocrite, that’s just stoking the fire.” another wrote “Paint? Probably not. Kitty litter(used, one would assume) creative, & the sign, a burst of genius.”
A Word of Caution
I personally do not condone any of the actions of the man and want to remind caution anyone that thinks they might do the same. However, I do think the best option would be for the city of Portland to enforce the laws that already exist, cite unlicensed vehicles sitting on the roadways, and maybe citizens wouldn’t think they have to take matters into their own hands.
