Posted on by admin

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Wash.-The man who shot a Pasco Police Officer in Dec. of 2022 had been sentenced to over seven years in prison.

Devontea Wright was sentenced to 92 months in Franklin County Superior Court on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

Wright shot Officer Jeremy Jones on Dec. 1 2022 during a struggle between the two on the ground, according to a press release from the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officer Jones was attempting to arrest Wright on an outstanding warrant related to a shooting in Kennewick.

Jones’s weapon was reportedly holstered when he was shot in the leg. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office investigated the shooting.

The jury was able to review the gun and holster during the trial and while Wright’s DNA was not found on either, testing from the WSP’s Crime Lab confirmed that five individuals had touched the textured area.

According to the press release on Wright’s sentencing, the Crime Lab is only able to isolate a DNA sample when 4 or fewer profiles are involved.

The jury deliberated for eighteen hours according to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office, before returning guilty verdicts for Assault in the Second Degree, Attempted Disarming a Law Enforcement Officer, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the Second Degree, and Resisting Arrest.

Wright currently plans to appeal his conviction.
