The Rock Kennewick

KENNEWICK, Wash. — A restaurant in Kennewick has agreed to pay $11,000 in compensatory damages for denying service to a disabled person because they had a service animal.

According to a release from the United States Attorney’s Office, owners of The Rock Wood Fired Pizza (The Rock Kennewick) admitted they denied service to the disabled individual in November of 2021.  This violates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The release said The Rock Kennewick fully cooperated with the investigation and agreed to remedial measures.

In addition to the payment of $11,000 to the person they denied service to, The Rock Kennewick and three other Rock Wood Fired Pizza locations will be taking multiple other actions.

These include implementing a written Title III ADA and service animal policy, training staff on the requirements of ADA and instituting a grievance procedure for any alleged ADA violations.

The restaurants must also post notices that service animals are welcome.

The Rock Wood Fired Pizza will be required to submit reports to the United States Attorney’s office every six months for the next three years regarding compliance and any alleged violations.

If the restaurants fail to take these actions, the owners will be subject to up to $75,000 in penalties per violation.
