RICHLAND, Wash. – This afternoon, hundreds of people gathered along George Washington Way in Richland to protest immigration and customs enforcement. Nearly 200 individuals participated in the peaceful demonstration near the Richland Holiday Inn, waving flags, holding homemade signs, and playing music.
According to a flyer obtained by NonStop Local, the protest began around 2:00 p.m. Evelyn Gomez, one of the event organizers, expressed surprise at the turnout.
“We thought it was only going to be max 50 people,” Gomez said. “We were trying to spread the word, but we had no idea it would ever get this big. And it’s honestly amazing. We would have never imagined it. It’s bigger than any of our wildest dreams.”
Another peaceful protest is planned for tomorrow in Pasco. It is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. on Road 68 and Burden Boulevard.
