PASCO, Wash. – A car crash in a West Pasco neighborhood on Sunday resulted in a reckless driving charge for the driver.
The incident occurred between Pierre and Hartford Drive, where the 24 year-old driver struck a parked car, sending into the back of another parked car.
Sergeant Travis Park from the Pasco Police Department says despite the driver being released at the time of the incident, they’ll still be held accountable.
“They’re still getting the charges (and) still going to go through the court system,” said Sgt. Park.
Sgt. Park says the decision to release the driver was at the discretion of the officers on scene. He also says they had to determine if he was a threat to others and posed a threat to the community.
Police arrived at the neighborhood around 4:41 p.m. on Sunday and found three cars significantly damaged. Sgt. Park says the driver of the Tesla was doing well over the speed limit, which is 25 miles per hour in the neighborhood.
Fortunately, no one was inside the two cars hit by the speeding driver, and the driver himself was not badly injured. After officers assessed the scene for injuries, they proceeded into their investigation.
Although the driver was not booked into jail, he is required to attend court to face the reckless driving charge. In Washington, this charge can lead to up to one year in prison and a $5,000 fine.
