House Fire

KENNEWICK, Wash. — A man was severely burned in a house fire in Kennewick Thursday, September 22.

According to the Kennewick Fire Department, crews were dispatched to a fire in the 2700 block of West 6th Place around 8:30 a.m.

A dispatcher reported hearing screams in the background when a caller reported the house fire.

Fire crews began arriving on scene within about five minutes. Upon arrival, KFD says fire could be seen coming from the backside of the home.

A man, approximately 40 years of age, had burns on his upper torso.

While crews worked to extinguish the flames, the arriving paramedic unit treated the burn victim, who was then transported to a local hospital. Once stabilized, the man was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for advanced medical care.

KFD says the fire was extinguished within 12 minutes of the first crew’s arrival.

An exact cause of the fire has not been determined, but KFD says it started in the kitchen. The fire department is reminding people that cooking fires are the primary cause of house fires and related injuries.
