Benton County residents can get rid of hazardous waste at Oct. 4 event

KENNEWICK, Wash. – Benton County is hosting a household hazardous waste collection event at the Benton County Fairgrounds on Oct. 4, allowing for residents to throw away items they otherwise cannot throw away regularly.

The free event runs from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. or until full capacity is reached. No appointment is required.

Accepted items include:

PaintPropane tanksCleanersGasoline (less than 20 gallons)Gas/oil mixYard chemicals/fertilizersMotor oilsAntifreezeBatteries (acid or alkaline)Fire extinguishersPool chemicals

Not accepted items include:

ExplosivesAsbestosAmmunitionBiohazardsTiresMedicinesElectronicsGasoline (more than 20 gallons)Business/contractor wasteFluorescent bulbs and tubesContainers larger than 5 gallonsCFL bulbs and tubes
