WEST RICHLAND, Wash. – Benton County Fire District 4 (BCFD4) announced it’s set to enhance emergency services in 2025 without increasing taxes.
Fire Chief Paul Carlyle expressed gratitude for the community’s support and careful budgeting. “We’re grateful for the trust our residents place in us,” said Carlyle. “The upgrades planned reflect our commitment to operating within our means while prioritizing the community’s safety.”
Several key projects are planned for the year. These include adding training space at Station 420, upgrading exhaust systems at Stations 410 and 420, and completing interior updates at Station 410 with fresh paint and new flooring.
According to a release by BCFD4, a new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) compressor and fill station will be installed to enhance the safety of firefighters and emergency personnel. Additionally, the district will expand its emergency vehicle fleet with a new ambulance and a remounted ambulance.
The district will also hire three full-time firefighter/EMTs to address rising call volumes. Despite not requesting a funding increase in three years, the district has managed to maintain services even as the Consumer Price Index rose nearly 14% over that period.
Chief Carlyle emphasized the district’s dedication to the community, stating, “Our firefighters and safety programs exist for one reason: to serve the community, so we pride ourselves on stretching tax dollars further.”
