After a Renton police officer was seriously injured in the line of duty earlier this week, Officer Kauppila has been released from the hospital and is now recovering at home.

The Renton Police Department announced with a video of Officer Kauppila being released, with crowds cheering him as he leaves the hospital.
Dozens of Officers and Community Members Were There to See Him Off
Kauppila was seriously injured Monday night, but after receiving treatment at Harborview Medical Center, he was finally able to leave the hospital Wednesday.
The moment he left the hospital turned into something pretty special with dozens of officers from multiple law enforcement agencies lined up outside Harborview to cheer Kauppila on as he headed home.
It was a simple gesture, but one that showed just how much support was behind him.
Officers stood together to remind Kauppila that he isn’t going through the recovery alone. He has an entire law enforcement community standing behind him.
Now Comes the Road to Recovery
Renton police thanked the medical staff at Harborview for the care Kauppila received, and also thanked the community and partner agencies who showed an overwhelming amount of support.

There will likely be a long recovery ahead, but getting out of the hospital and back home is a big first step.
