Bacon from Canada Recalled in PNW by USDA

Posted on by admin

Thursday, July 30, the USDA announced they have recalled 12,036 lbs. of not-ready-to-eat bacon from a Canadian company over inspection issues.

The Bacon Was Sold at Retailers in WA, OR, and Idaho

The bacon was shipped to retailers, says USDA, without being re-inspected by USDA officials. Laws require imports to be double-checked by US authorities to ensure safety and security.  So far, no illnesses reported, but USDA takes these inspection processes seriously.

Maple Leaf Foods of Illinois received the bacon from Canada. The two shipments in question, according to the USDA, are labeled this way:

  • “12-oz vacuum package of “Royale Natural Applewood Smoked ALL NATURAL Uncured Bacon Product of Canada” with sell by dates of “SEP 01 2026” and “SEP 07 2026” printed on the side of the package
  • 12-oz vacuum package of “TOP VALU Uncured Hardwood Smoked Bacon PRODUCT OF CANADA” with various sell by dates of “SEP 01 2026”, “SEP 02 2026”, “SEP 04 2026”, “SEP 05 2026”, and “SEP 07 2026″ printed on the side of the package.”

The packaging bears the Canadian “establishment” number EST 1, and health certificate number 2026-S732971612.

The issue was discovered during USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) operations.

   Where Was the Bacon Sold?

The ‘raw’ bacon was sold at retailers in Washingon, Oregon and Idaho, and was sold through Grocery Outlet Stores.  Consumers who have purchased these products can either return them to the place of purchase, or discard them.

The USDA classified the recall as a Level 1, or the highest priority of recall levels. USDA says they will publish information on their website recalls list when all the packages of product are known to be off the market.

See what everyday foods like coffee, pineapples, and cashews (super weird!) look like before they make their way onto your table and into your belly.
