The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday, July 15, the body of a man who fell into the river has been retrieved.
Man Was One of Two Who Fell In July 9
The evening of July 9th, the YCSO responded to a location near Yakima alongside the river, about a pair of men who’d been on a raft, fishing.
The raft capsized, spilling them both into the water. Neither were wearing life jackets, one man made it to shore, but the other did not. YCSO and Rescue Teams combed the shoreline with spotlights and other search methods, but only found various wildlife. The search continued for the next several days.
The search also included the YCSO Water Patrol Unit.

Man’s Body Found South of Union Gap
The drowning victim, identified as 49-year-old Wayne Douglas Dobbs of Yakima, was found in the water south of the Union Gap area. His body is with the County Coroner, Officials stressed this was another tragedy that could have likely been averted if he’d been wearing a life jacket.
