Hanford Security Incident Leaves Two Patrol Officers Injured

One man is dead after a crash on the Hanford site that also sent two officers to the hospital.

In reports filed by 509 Media, the incident occurred at about 7:00 PM on July 8th as a vehicle traveling at 80-100 MPH breached the Wye Barricade on Route 4 South near Milepost 9

Employee Driving 80-100 MPH Crashes Through Hanford Security Checkpoint

The driver then collided head-on with a Hanford Patrol vehicle, injuring two officers and sending them to the hospital.

The driver was reportedly observed traveling at high speeds in the wrong lane before blowing through the barricade, according to theĀ Tri-City Herald

Following a serious collision involving a security breach at the Hanford site, the Wye entrance was temporarily closed for investigation.

This closure resulted in significant commute delays, though travelers were able to use the Yakima Barricade as an alternative route.

The on-site employee driving the vehicle that collided with the Hanford Patrol vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.

The accident and incident are still under investigation, and as we get more information, we’ll update you.
