I’ve been told that as you get older, your short-term memory starts to slide away. Things like trying to remember where you put your car keys. Where is that book that I was reading just 15 minutes ago? Did I turn the oven off?
I don’t know about the average American, but it seems to me that I’ve had flashes of that for the last 50 years.
There’s a new study out that says that the average American has over 300 absent minded experiences a year. (Really, that few?) it goes on to say that the average American loses or misplaces an average of five items per week. I can believe that, I feel like I averaged that in a day.
Research from DuelBits (a gambling website) “analyzed each state’s annual Google search volume per capita for 20 everyday essential items, including phone, keys, car, ID, passport, driver’s license, clothes, tech, tax and luggage, to reveal which states are the most absent-minded nationwide.”

Here is what they discovered.
The top three most absent-minded states were,
#3, Nevada, the most common lost item was the smartphone.
#2, Colorado, Again, the most common lost item was the smartphone.
#1, Alabama, The most common lost item? Luggage.
(Is that before, during, or after you go on a trip?)
What state is the least forgetful?
The top three least forgetful states.
North Dakota, New Hampshire and the least forgetful or mindful state, Wyoming. Seems to be the state where most people know how to keep track of their stuff.
What about Washington?
Sorry to disappoint you, but it seems that Washington State residents are pretty forgetful. Washington rates number six on the list of most forgetful states, and the thing that we’re most forgetful about is where we placed our phone.
Like most people in our American culture today my smartphone is my constant companion. I use it in the workplace. I use it to keep in contact with my loved ones, and of course I use it from time to time to just kill time.
I do occasionally misplace my phone. Happily, not five times a day.
I have a great idea for a new product you can sell on the Internet. The “Phone Leash.” Think of it as a lanyard you can put around your neck and hang your phone from.
Ohh man, somebody’s already done it.

Apparently, a lot of somebodies.
