Van Giesen Street Drivers Will Need Alternate Routes Starting June 22

If Tri-Cities didn’t have enough roundabouts, we are getting a new one that’ll replace the stoplight at Keene and Van Giesen.

Commuters Should Expect Delays Near Keene Road and Van Giesen

According to a posting from the City of West Richland, detours are being planned for the start of the construction project, scheduled to begin on Monday, June 22nd.

Here’s where traffic will be impacted if you are traveling in the area:

SR 224 (Van Giesen Street): Traffic will be detoured around the intersection via Keene Road and Paradise Way.

Keene Road: Traffic will not be able to travel through the intersection and must use the designated detour routes along Paradise Way and Belmont Blvd.

Over the next two months, construction crews will build a new roundabout and complete several roadway improvements, including:

• Storm drainage collection and treatment systems
• Street lighting
• Roadway curbing
• Asphalt paving
• Pedestrian crossings and ADA-accessible ramps
• Sidewalks
• Connections to the new regional pathway system
• Pavement striping and roadway signage

It’s summertime in the Tri-Cities, so expect detours, delays, and slowdowns as construction crews work hard on the new roundabout.

The City of West Richland is reminding motorists to take extra time as the Keene and Van Giesen intersection will be closed starting Monday, June 22nd.
