Applications for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds available for local organizations

KENNEWICK, Wash. – United Way of Benton and Franklin Counties announced on Feb. 6 that applications for funds from the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) are now being accepted for 2025.

According to a press release from United Way of Benton and Franklin Counties, the EFSP allocated $97,551 for Benton County and $49,088 for Franklin County to support local nonprofits.

An organization must meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply:

Provide services in either or both Benton and Franklin CountiesBe a 501(c)(3) nonprofit or “… agency in good standing with the IRS”Be eligible to receive Federal fundsPossess an accounting systemHave a valid Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN)Have a Federal government issued UEI numberHave the ability and capacity to deliver emergency food programs Have a board that meets quarterly (at least) Agencies with religious affiliations that offer Federally funded programs must not discriminate or refuse service to people based on religion, practice religious proselytization, or faith-based counseling

The EFSP funds are provided to nonprofit organizations that officer critical services to Benton and Franklin County residents such as emergency food services, shelter, and rent/mortgage assistance. The funds can be used to cover eligible expenses between January 1 and December 31, 2025.
