RICHLAND, Wash. — Despite a semi-covered snowy hill, kids, teens and even some adults took full advantage of a snow day at Carmichael Hill in Richland.

“Sledding!” Cash Jeffries yelled.

Jeffries and his cousin Colton were fearless going down the hill.

“When I was doing that mega-ramp I almost did a back flip,” Cash exclaimed.

The screams of excitement, and maybe some from pain, could be heard across the hill.

“It’s fun, there’s a lot more snow than we’re used to,” twins Jayden and Jacob Salter just moved to the region from Seattle.

The twins, like many others, were delighted to have a day off of school.

“We went down the ramp over there it was fun. Fun because I get to nail my friends with snowballs,” Jayden said.

It seemed building ramps was the popular thing to do at Carmichael Hill.

“I tried to snowboard and I just went flying off. It’s fun we’re going off the jump, which felt like a brick wall but now it’s pretty fun,” Braiden Mohr said.

It might be your first instinct to stay inside and avoid the cold, but you could be missing out on some health benefits.

The Farmer’s Almanac said getting outside in the cold can improve your sleep, lower cortisol levels and help people avoid the winter blues or Seasonal Affective Disorder.

One group of girls, made up of sisters and cousins, has been coming to Carmichael Hill for as long as they can remember.

“Sledding – we built like this big ramp and we’ve all been going on it and there’s like random kids – there’s been a lot of wipeouts,” Taryn Frajole, a Ninth Grader at Pasco High School said.

“I went on the ramp and then I went like three feet high,” Frajole’s cousin, Bethany, added.

Of course, a proper sledding session isn’t complete without a hot meal after.

“Yeah we’re going to get Little Caesars after!” Colton Kiss said.

Carmichael Hill is located next to Carmichael Middle School in Richland.
