Yakima County, Pasco

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. — Detectives have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a 44-year-old man who arrived at Sunnyside Hospital with at least one gunshot wound on Tuesday night.

According to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were sent to Astria Sunnyside Hospital late on November 8, 2022 for reports of a gunshot victim. When they arrived, authorities learned that the victim, since identified as Sylvester Almaguer Jr. of Outlook, was suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Investigators received information to suggest that the shooting occurred near the intersection of Price Rd and Outlook Rd. They were sent to the area to process the scene and search for evidence of the shooting.

In the meantime, Almaguer Jr., who was being transported to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center, died from his injuries.

Authorities say there is reason to believe this homicide was gang-related, but details remain scarce.

If you have any information to contribute to their investigation, you’re urged to call Detective Arreguin at (509) 574-256. Otherwise, you can submit an anonymous tip online at www.crimestoppersyakco.org.
