Deer Flees Hit-And-Run South of Kennewick, SUV Totaled

Posted on by admin

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office reminds drivers, especially in rural areas of the county, to be on the lookout for deer and other animals.

Small SUV totaled in deer-vs-vehicle collision

Late Wednesday night, BCSO Deputies were called to a remote area of the county, near the intersection of Plymouth and Tyrell Road. The location is about 11 miles southeast of Kennewick, and a few miles north of Plymouth near the Oregon border.

Deputies say a deer ran out in the road, and collided with an SUV, totaling the vehicle. Remarkably, the driver said the deer sprang up and fled the scene at high speed, it didn’t appear to suffer serious injuries.

A tow truck had to be dispatched to remove the vehicle from the location,  presumably due to heavy front-end damage.

Daylight Savings Time brings out more animals

Officials say now that it’s getting dark a lot earlier, be on the lookout for deer and other animals, who move around at night, especially in more rural areas in our region.

They’re prone to move across roads, and even leap out in front of oncoming vehicles, so be watching.
