NTSB Investigator In Charge Albert Nixon said the airplane, a Cessna 525B jet airplane, was being operated as a business flight.
PASCO – The NTSB released its preliminary report on a fiery crash landing that happened back in September.
According to the report, NTSB Investigator In Charge Albert Nixon said the airplane, a Cessna 525B jet airplane, was being operated as a business flight.
On September 20, 2022, just after 7 a.m., the plane landed on runway 3L at the Tri-Cities Airport without its landing gear extended. Nixon reported the airplane slid down the runway and came to a stop and within minutes, burst into flames.
The report stated the pilot told NTSB investigators the flight was “uneventful” and when they were preparing to land, they noticed the plane appeared to “float longer than expected.” That’s when the pilot claimed they realized the landing gear was not extended. The pilot also reported to the NTSB that they did not hear any warning tones or alarms that would have indicated the landing gear was not engaged or that there was a problem.
During the evacuation of the plane, the pilot reported to investigators they noticed the plane was on fire near the right engine.
All nine passengers and one crew member were able to escape the plane without getting hurt.
The flight took off from Chehalis earlier that morning and the weather conditions did not appear in this report to have affected the flight.
This initial report is preliminary and the final report has not yet been released.
